Aromatherapy is the alternative and natural way for stress relief and wellness through the use of scents. The assumption in this practice is in the belief that the use of fragrant essential oils, or aromatherapy, can relax the mind or modify one’s mood, even lower blood pressure. This non-intrusive practice is gaining popularity among a lot of people. Many subscribe to the benefits of essential oil fragrances through the most common practice using aromatherapy diffusers. Aromatherapy diffusers can take different forms and they are not high-tech devices.

One can usually find aromatherapy diffusers in these following forms:

1. Candles – this is one of the most common types out in the market and the most convenient for those who do not want to bother with buying and storing essential oils. There are candles that are already infused with specific essential oils that one wants.

One can also use a conventional candle as an aromatherapy diffuser by simply adding essential oil to the melted wax of a candle. The process is simple. Light a candle and let the wax melt. Put out the candle and add the oil into the melted wax. Light the candle and enjoy the fragrance.

2. Lamp rings – this aromatherapy diffuser features a lamp and terra cotta ring where you can put the essential oil in. The heat from the lamp diffuses the essential oil into the air allowing you to enjoy its fragrance.

3.	Fan diffuser – as the name implies, this type of aromatherapy diffuser uses a fan to dissipate the essential oil into the air. In this type of diffuser, the oil source is an absorbent pad with some aromatherapy essential oil.

4.	Electric heat diffuser – this uses a heating device and an electric fan to dissipate the aromatherapy essential oil into the air.

5.	Nebulizer – some say that this method is the most effective since it “nebulizes” or distributes the molecules of the essential oil evenly into the air.

The tension of having a fast-paced world brought about by the advances in technology creating a modern but busy way of living haunts us now in the form of stress. Though commonly taken for granted, stress is actually a main cause of life-threatening health problems such as heart diseases, obesity and even depression. We should be thankful that there is an alternative medicine called aromatherapy to take away our stress and in essence, prolong our life. Essential aromatherapy is a kind of treatment wherein aromatic essential oils coming from plants which are naturally fragrant compounds are used to soothe our brain through aerial diffusion whereas massage aromatherapy uses topical application techniques which relax our body and improve our immune system.

An aromatherapy essential oil, like lemon oil, for instance is found to reduce stress. However, these essential oils must be extracted for us to enjoy their benefits. Once extracted, they will be diffused into the atmosphere or inhaled directly to soothe our senses. For better aromatherapy experience, an aromatherapy diffuser is used to make these aromatic compounds readily diffuse into the air. An example of an aromatherapy diffuser is an atomizer that makes the molecules of air readily separate in the air by its pumping action. The tea light diffuser is an old-fashioned aromatherapy diffuser that is still used nowadays for its simplicity. It operates as a diffuser through the use of a lighted candle under a ceramic plate that makes the molecules of these essential oils disperse in the atmosphere by the presence of heat.

The advantages of an aromatherapy diffuser rely on the fact that through them, we can fully enjoy the benefits of the fragrance of these natural oils to stimulate our olfactory senses and brains better. The use of an aromatherapy diffuser will also prove cost-effective since only little of these essential oils will then be needed for each aromatherapy session.

So, in the comfort of our own homes, we can relax by obtaining the essential oils and by using a simple aromatherapy diffuser without going to the spa. We can use this time off our busy schedule to pamper our body and also to rejuvenate it as it prepares for another active day.

Aromatherapy is an age old form of alternative medicine that seeks to improve a man’s health, function or mood through the use of aroma. Aromatherapy uses essential oils in its operation. Essential oils are liquids extracted from plants. These oils would usually contain the scent or the essence of the plant.

Now, to use these oils for aromatherapy, they need to be dispersed into the air. They need to fill a room and be experienced by someone undergoing aromatherapy. For the oil to be dispersed properly, you would need an aromatherapy diffusers. Aromatherapy diffuser changes these oils into molecules that can float freely in the air. These freely floating oil molecules can then be breathe in and do its wonders.

Some aromatherapy diffusers use a small pump to convert oils into aroma. This device s called an atomizer. Now, if the scent of the oil is strong enough, you may just use a cotton ball. Just dip the cotton ball in the oil and place the cotton ball in a small bowl and let the scent permeate the room. There you have your very own, simple, hand-made aromatherapy diffuser.

Other people use candles. These oils are mixed in with the wax they use to create the candle. When you light the candle, and as the candle burn on, it emits the scent of the oil that was added to the wax. This aromatherapy diffuser is the most common type used by a lot of people.

Oftentimes, people undergoing aromatherapy feel that the scent has already died down, this is not so. Your senses has simply gotten used to the aroma. The aroma is still there, it’s just that you can no longer smell them. You need to step out of the room for a while and come back in again.

This book will show you the massage program for your face that will make you look and feel younger. The massage program along with all the information on essential and carrier olis will give you everything you need to make your own body and facial products.

5 Stars Love it!
Great information on methods (with photos to go along with the steps) as well as information on carrier and essential oils (their benefits and uses)…very much recommended!

5 Stars Happy Skin
The pictures and format are vibrant and beautiful as well as clear and concise, which is huge bonus to any “how to” manual. There’s a great overview of aromatherapy. I found the synopsis of the oils and how they will benefit your skin type to be very interesting and helpful, although, a few of the products have not been easy to find (but there’s a list of contacts and mail order in the index). The exercises were easy to follow and gentle, with full color pic’s and text explanation. The oils and exercices are soothing. I also found the full color poster of the exercises(included), to be helpful during travel. I’ve been on the daily program for 2 weeks now and I already feel a difference in the overall tone of my face. I like the way this book promotes a healthy alternative to preserving and resurecting younger skin. It’s also a good read if you’re interested in learning some fascinating basics about oils & aromatherapy. Aesthetically, I love this book. Great combination of instructional pic’s and informative advice.

A chemist and aromatherapy practitioner provides scientific proof for the effectiveness of using essential oils.

Aromatherapy is the fastest-growing segment of the body care industry, an effective and deeply pleasurable way to maintain well-being. Now, Kurt Schnaubelt, a chemist and longtime aromatherapy practitioner, provides scientific proof for the efficacy of essential oils, explained clearly and logically.

Advanced Aromatherapy draws on the most recent research to demonstrate how essential oils work on the cells and microbes of the body. These chemical changes affect emotional states as well as physical ones.

Advanced Aromatherapy explains how to treat symptoms ranging from hay fever to stress disorders with predictable results.

An essential textbook for aromatherapy practitioners.

5 Stars Advanced Aromatherapy
I own an Aromatherapy Bodywork business and I really found this book useful. In previous years all I had access to were books with less specified subject matter. The Advanced Aromatherapy book is much more detailed especially if you wish to take your understanding of essential oils to a much higher level. I gave it a five star reting!

4 Stars Intensely scientific
Very useful aromatherapy guide. It is intensely scientific…particularly the 2nd chapter entitled “Essential Oils – Definition and Distillation”; bored me out of my mind. It has a wonderful chapter on self-treatment and all the precautions with a guide of all the essential oils and their uses. I am glad I bought it, however I am sure there are better guides out there.

5 Stars Great book by a well known teacher
Even the person who taught the essential oil class I took spoke very highly of Dr. Schnaubelt and, after purchasing this book, I know why. This book touches on most aspects of essental oils in a manner that even a beginner can understand. It is well written and gives you a great understanding of how essential oils work. As a result of reading this book, I hope to take some of Dr. Schnaulbelt’s correspondence classes in the very near future.

5 Stars Cientific Book
This is a book recomended for those who like to now all the detail about the oils, it gives us the cientific and chimical detail and explanations about essencial oils.

3 Stars so so book skims info
If I had pulled this book off the shelf before buying it, I wouldn’t have bought it.

5 Stars Outstanding Book!
This book is outstanding! Not only does it offer a ton of recipes for every type of cream, lotion, toner and scrub your could want, but it also gives a ton of information about the products used in them. It talks about all of the different oils, butters and items you use in them and the pros and cons of each. I have never found such a comprehensive book and use it for everything. Cannot recommend this book enough.

2 Stars Kind of a wierd book…
This book is not exactly what I expected. While the author is obviously knowledgeable, the information in the book is organized in somewhat of a confusing fashion and the recipes are often complicated. Some of the raw ingredients required are obscure and hard to find. Ultimately I think that this book would only appeal to a pretty small niche market.

4 Stars There is just one problem
The book is very informative and there are many creams recipes But there are no preservatives so it is really does not so commercial…

4 Stars very informative
This book is very interesting and informative. It’s an easy “how to” guide for making your own natural, organic, or homeopathic lotions, creams, and other everyday toiletry items. Every woman who cares about her skin and body should purchase this book. I think men will benefit from this book as well. The supplies are pretty basic and if you can follow directions, you should be successful. I’m very satisfied that I bought this book. Now…what can I make next?

2 Stars Very difficult to get ingredients
I got this book and ‘Earthly Bodies & Heavenly Hair’ for Christmas and I have to say I haven’t used this book once. Nearly everything I needed for recipes in ‘Earthly bodies’ I got from the local Whole foods but with this book I stopped at the first recipes and couldn’t find one thing. I’m sure it would result in nice lotions and creams but without the ingredients I will never know. Kind of sad but at least I got the other book, which I love and really recommend.

This brisk tour of essential oils (or concentrated plant essences) and explores their many applications and uses. Author Susan Worwood begins with a brief history of oils and aromatherapy, which describes how the practice of aromatherapy shifted from having New Age connotations to being accepted in popular culture. The reader then learns how essential oils work–from their antibiotic, antiviral, and antifungal properties to their mind/body/spiritual connection. The guide provides tips on buying and storing oils and includes useful one-page profiles of the plants that produce the oils, from basil to yuzu. The book’s exhaustive “how to use” list describes how to make face masks, foot baths, gargles, diffusers, and more. The list also teaches us that there are inexpensive, natural treatments for many common maladies. This book offers a great crash course in essential oils and aromatherapy is a useful reference handbook.

This classic manual provides detailed evidence for the efficacy of plant medicine. Valnet effectively bridges the gap between the tradition of healing with herbs and the advances of modern medicine, showing, in scientific terms, why plant medicine works, and making an impassioned plea for curtailing our use of dangerous chemical therapies.

4 Stars The Practice of Aromatherapy : A Classic Compendium of Plant Medicines and Their Healing Properties
What can I say – It’s a must have if you are at all serious about understanding Aromatherapy and the philosophy behind it.

Valnet is and has been a well referenced Author and holds a special section on our clinic’s bookshelf. Need I say more?

2 Stars Interesting, but not Convincing
This seems to be a typical old-fashioned herbal, only with emphasis on essential oils and aromatics rather than simply herbs. In other words, lots of untested claims. I assume they’re untested, as the author provides little evidence for his assertions, save a very few anecdotal stories. I have no problem with anecdotal evidence, but I’d like rather more of it if I’m to be reassured a treatment is worth trying.

I think I myself could write a book like this–I have a good imagination, and it looks as though that may be all that’s required. I gave it two stars because I found it mildly entertaining.

5 Stars The Practice of Aromatherapy
When you look in the Bibliographies of Aromatherapy books, The Practice of Aromatherapy by Valnet, is always mentioned. There’s a good reason why: first written in 1980 and translated into English in 1982, Valnet (an M.D.) is one of the foremost experts in Aromatherapy. His book not only teaches about the healing power of aromatic plants, but, gives textbook like instruction in the importance of herbals and essential oils. He includes studies on 40 individual essential oils, detailing their internal and external uses along with some recipes. There is also a Therapeutic Index, case histories, and formulas. I dont think this is a beginners book; however, a must for the serious student of Aromatherapy.

5 Stars Classic on Medical Aromatherapy
Here is one book that just about everyone who writes on Medical Aromatherapy refers to. The book is written by a medical doctor and the initial chapter (about 50 pages) of the book deal with drawbacks of modern medication. One of the chief drawbacks mentioned is that as the body becomes used to certain medication it requires more and more of it to produce therapeutic effect; meanwhile as more medications are added, there is a greater chance of undesirable side-effects. He also mentions instances where the use of essential oils has given better and faster results, as well as times when they were useful because nothing else was available (as in some places during war times).

The rest of the books deals with the properties, as well as internal and external uses of about 40 popular essential oils. Among different forms of application, there are also traditional recipes where particular flowers, herbs or spices have been used in cooking, in creation of wines and liquers, vinegars, elixirs, lozenges and for cleaning and desinfecting premises.

5 Stars Well documented classic
The previous reviewer who said this book was just a compilation of anecdotes and imagination didn’t read carefully. Dr. Valnet includes several medical case studies as well as detailed anecdotes. The medical establishment is notorious for discounting “common wisdom” when it comes to herbals, and yet this information has been passed on for generations. Dr. Valnet, as a medical doctor, includes the uses as well as some warnings. His writing is sometimes difficult to understand, as he uses a lot of medical terminology, some of which is European. But the glossary in the back helps tremendously. I’m just beginning on my herbal education road, and I chose this book because so many other herbals refer to it. It’s challenging getting through the introduction and the whys/wherefores. But once the foundation information is established, the rest goes quickly and easily. Contains listings by herb as well as by ailment, making it easy to study either a single herb or try different approaches for a single ailment.
